Establish a Routine

1. Keep it Simple
You tend to complicate everything with too much detail. To establish a routine that will work for you, keep it simple. It can be as simple as "Do ten things a day that need to be done... any ten."

2. Add a little at a time. Don't try to create a routine that takes in every day, every week, every month when you first create it. Start small and add to it after you have mastered the little.

3. There are a few things that cause you to feel bad about yourself if you do not do them. Make sure to include those in any routine. The piles of stuff that you need to go through and organize, the mountains of work are not really what make you feel bad or say "This is ridiculous!" What makes you feel disgusted or mad at yourself is leaving messes on the kitchen counter, allowing the clothes you take off daily to pile up in the bedroom, leaving the bed unmade, not emptying the dishwasher thus not being able to refill it, not keeping the counters sanitary, not sweeping or vacuuming when it's definitely needed, or cleaning up spots. In other words, when you are being a slob. Or, when you can't find something you NEED when you need it. Stamps. Needle and thread. Tape. A hammer or screw driver. Those are the things you need to work to change. Deal with the piles of stuff one organization job at a time.

Some things I'd like to change... but it's easier to just keep on doing what I am doing.
1. Spending LESS time on the computer in the mornings.
2. Walking daily, or at least five days a week.
3. Complete a SIMPLE housekeeping routine almost daily.

  • Make my bed and hang up my clothes or put them in the hamper, clear my bedroom floor
  • Clear and straighten the bathroom
  • Clear and straighten the living room
  • Clean the kitchen counters and microwave, empty/refill the dishwasher, wash dishes.
  • Sweep and clean spots from kitchen floor
